Carrie Season 1 Ending Explained: Do Chris and Billy Escape?

Warning: Major spoilers for Prime Video’s Carrie Season 1 ahead.

Prime Video’s Carrie puts a fresh, modern spin on Stephen King’s classic 1974 horror novel, while taking the story in an even darker and more violent direction than the iconic 1976 movie.

Starring Summer H. Howell as Carrie White, the series follows a troubled teenager whose life becomes increasingly unbearable after moving to a new school following the death of her father.

At school, Carrie quickly becomes the target of relentless bullying. In a world dominated by social media, the cruelty goes beyond the classroom, with anonymous online accounts and humiliating posts making Carrie’s life even more difficult.

One of her biggest tormentors is Christine “Chris” Hargensen (Alison Thornton), who creates a fake Instagram account to publicly embarrass Carrie.

Carrie does eventually find an unlikely companion in Emaline West (Thalia Dudek), a mysterious girl who encourages her to embrace the telekinetic abilities she has been hiding.

Everything eventually comes to a head at prom.

So, how does Carrie Season 1 end? Do Chris and Billy survive? What happens to Margaret? And who are the mysterious women watching Carrie?

Here’s the full Carrie Season 1 ending explained.

How Does Carrie Season 1 End?

The Season 1 finale unfolds largely through flashbacks as survivors of the prom-night massacre are interviewed about what happened.

After Chris and her boyfriend, Billy Nolan (Arthur Conti), dump pig’s blood on Carrie during prom, Carrie reaches her breaking point.

Instead of running away or simply accepting the humiliation, Carrie finally embraces her telekinetic powers.

With Emaline encouraging her to fight back, Carrie turns her anger against the people who have tormented her.

She begins by bringing down the catwalk where Chris and Billy are standing. However, the pair manages to escape before Carrie can get to them.

Carrie then locks the gym doors and unleashes her powers on the people inside.

Objects are thrown across the room, students are attacked and chaos quickly spreads throughout the school.

Soon, the building catches fire.

Carrie appears almost completely consumed by rage and barely reacts to the destruction around her. Her focus is on finding Chris and Billy.

Eventually, she follows them outside.

Do Chris and Billy Escape Carrie?

No. Chris and Billy do not escape.

After getting away from the burning school, Chris and Billy jump into their car and drive away.

However, they eventually stop on a deserted rural road to catch their breath and try to understand what has just happened.

That is when Chris notices something terrifying in the rearview mirror.

Carrie is walking toward them.

Billy decides that the only way to survive is to run Carrie over with the car.

But Carrie uses her telekinetic abilities at the last possible moment.

She flips the vehicle, sending it rolling several times.

The crash leaves both Chris and Billy horribly injured.

Billy is impaled, while Chris struggles to breathe.

Carrie approaches the wreckage, and Chris finally apologizes for what she did to her.

But the apology comes too late.

Carrie uses her powers to crush the roof of the car.

Chris and Billy are killed.

Their deaths mark one of the most brutal moments of the finale and show just how far Carrie has fallen into her rage.

What Happens to Carrie’s Mom, Margaret?

After killing Chris and Billy, Carrie experiences something she has rarely felt before: freedom.

Emaline encourages her to embrace that feeling.

The two move through town together, and Carrie’s powers become increasingly destructive. Buildings and objects around them burst into flames as they move through the streets.

But when Carrie looks back at the destruction, the reality finally hits her.

She realizes just how many people have died.

Overwhelmed by guilt, Carrie returns home to her mother, Margaret White (Samantha Sloyan).

Margaret comforts her, gives her a bath and tells Carrie to pray.

But Margaret is also terrified of what her daughter has become.

Believing Carrie has become too dangerous, Margaret attacks her with a sewing needle, stabbing her in the ear.

Carrie reacts with fury.

Her telekinetic powers cause the entire house to begin collapsing.

As the destruction settles, Carrie sees her mother trapped beneath a huge piece of roofing.

For a moment, it appears Margaret may have survived by using telekinetic power of her own.

But the structure eventually collapses onto her.

Surprisingly, Margaret survives the initial impact.

Then something even stranger happens.

Who Is Emaline?

Emaline appears at the house—but this time, she is no longer simply an imaginary figure in Carrie’s mind.

She appears as a real, physical person.

Emaline takes Carrie away from the destroyed house while Margaret remains trapped beneath the rubble.

This revelation changes the way viewers can interpret everything that happened between Carrie and Emaline throughout the season.

Emaline clearly knows much more about Carrie—and about people with supernatural abilities—than she initially revealed.

Who Are the Mysterious Women in Carrie Season 1?

The finale introduces another major mystery involving four women who appear to have their own connection to supernatural abilities.

During her interview, Sue Snell (Siena Agudong) explains that there were four women at the prom who appeared to have no reason to be there.

One of them is revealed to be an assassin hunting psychics.

The other three appear to belong to some kind of supernatural or telekinetic coven.

At this point, the series intentionally keeps their identities and motives unclear.

Are they protecting Carrie?

Are they trying to control her?

Or do they see Carrie as a threat?

The finale doesn’t provide all the answers, suggesting that these characters could become much more important if the series continues.

What Happens to Margaret in the Final Interview?

One of the finale’s biggest twists comes during Margaret’s interview.

The interviewer initially appears to be gathering information about what happened at the prom.

But the questioning quickly becomes disturbing.

The interviewer tells Margaret to concentrate on her heartbeat.

Then Margaret is instructed to slow it down.

Her heartbeat becomes slower and slower until it eventually stops.

Margaret is killed during the interview.

The mysterious women then enter and take Margaret’s body away.

That scene reveals that the interviews we’ve been watching throughout the finale aren’t actually for a documentary.

They are being conducted by a group with its own connection to psychics.

The implication is huge: Carrie isn’t the only person with supernatural abilities.

What Happens to Carrie at the End of Season 1?

The final scene reveals that Carrie has escaped with Emaline.

Carrie wakes up inside a car while Emaline is driving.

Carrie asks where they are, but Emaline refuses to tell her.

She explains that if Carrie knows their location, she could potentially think about it—and that could expose them to other psychics.

Instead, Emaline simply tells Carrie that she’s taking her somewhere safe.

The scene ends with Carrie leaving her old life behind.

But rather than giving viewers a traditional happy ending, the finale opens the door to a much bigger supernatural story.

Carrie is now surrounded by people who understand her powers, but it’s unclear whether they are protecting her or preparing her for something much more dangerous.

Will There Be a Carrie Season 2?

As of now, Prime Video has not officially renewed Carrie for Season 2.

However, director Mike Flanagan has already talked about his long-term vision for the story.

In September 2026, Flanagan told Collider that he hopes Carrie can continue for three seasons, describing his ideal plan as a trilogy.

That means the Season 1 finale may be less of an ending and more of the beginning of a much larger story.

If the show returns, Season 2 could explore Carrie’s new life with Emaline, the mysterious psychic group, the women connected to the coven and the assassin hunting people with supernatural abilities.

For now, one thing is clear:

Carrie’s story is far from over.
