Camila Mendes is officially returning for Upgraded 2! The Riverdale star will reprise her role in the sequel to the hit 2024 romantic comedy while also stepping behind the scenes as a producer.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, production on Upgraded 2 is scheduled to begin in Italy this month. While the storyline remains under wraps, the upcoming film will reunite key creative talent from the original movie.
Camila Mendes Returns for ‘Upgraded 2’
Mendes will once again lead the romantic comedy, following the success of the first Upgraded movie on Prime Video.
In the original film, Mendes played Ana, an ambitious art auction house intern whose work trip to London takes an unexpected turn when she receives an upgrade to first class. Things get even more complicated when William, played by Archie Renaux, mistakes her for her demanding boss, Claire, portrayed by Marisa Tomei.
Rather than immediately correcting the misunderstanding, Ana plays along, setting the stage for a charming romance filled with unexpected twists.
Although Amazon MGM Studios has yet to reveal the sequel’s plot, Mendes’ return offers fans another reason to look forward to the next chapter.
Who Is Behind ‘Upgraded 2’?
The sequel will be written by Luke Roberts and Justin Matthews, who also wrote the original film. Becca Gleason is set to direct, with Honor Role and Gulfstream Pictures producing the project.
Mendes will also serve as a producer, expanding her involvement beyond her starring role.
Like its predecessor, Upgraded 2 is expected to stream globally on Prime Video. However, Amazon MGM Studios has not announced an official release date.
What Was the First ‘Upgraded’ Movie About?
Released in 2024, Upgraded followed Ana as she navigated the glamorous world of art, luxury travel, and unexpected romance.
Her first-class upgrade leads to a case of mistaken identity that changes the course of her London trip. As Ana gets closer to William, she must navigate the growing complications created by her decision to maintain the illusion.
The original movie earned a Certified Fresh 76% score on Rotten Tomatoes from 51 reviews, according to the supplied report, helping establish its appeal among romantic comedy fans.
What’s Next for Camila Mendes?
Beyond her return to the Upgraded franchise, Mendes has continued building her career across film and television. She appeared as Teela in Amazon MGM Studios’ Masters of the Universe and starred in the 2024 Prime Video film Música.
With production on Upgraded 2 heading to Italy, fans can look forward to more details about the sequel as filming progresses.
For now, the biggest questions remain unanswered: Who will Ana meet next, and what romantic complications await her?
