Kristen Bell’s Mrs. Claus Almost Appeared in the First Violent Night Movie—But Everything Changed
Kristen Bell Mrs. Claus is finally making her big-screen debut in Violent Night 2, but the beloved character almost appeared in the original 2022 holiday action film. According to producer Kelly McCormick, the filmmakers originally planned to introduce Mrs. Claus at the end of the first movie before ultimately changing course. That decision paved the way for Kristen Bell to join the franchise in a completely different and more exciting role, giving fans a fresh version of Mrs. Claus alongside David Harbour’s action-packed Santa.
As anticipation builds for the holiday action sequel, McCormick shared new behind-the-scenes details about why the filmmakers ultimately decided to save Mrs. Claus for the follow-up.
Kristen Bell’s Mrs. Claus Was Almost Introduced in the First Movie
Speaking with SlashFilm, producer Kelly McCormick revealed that the creative team originally planned to tease Mrs. Claus during the ending of the first Violent Night. However, after extensive discussions, they decided to remove the scene entirely.
According to McCormick, introducing the character too early would have locked the sequel into a very different direction.
“We almost put a button in the back of Violent Night with Mrs. Claus. If we would’ve done that, she would’ve been somebody totally different in this one.”
The filmmakers ultimately chose not to cast the role at the time, leaving the door open for a fresh take in the sequel.
Why Kristen Bell Was the Perfect Choice
McCormick couldn’t hide her excitement about casting Kristen Bell as Mrs. Claus.
She explained that Bell’s longtime friendship with David Harbour, who returns as Santa Claus, helped make the casting possible. McCormick admitted she initially thought landing Bell would be impossible because of her busy schedule.
Fortunately, everything came together.
According to the producer, Bell brings warmth, humor, and action to the character while helping Santa rediscover what Christmas truly means.
What Happens in Violent Night 2?
Directed by Tommy Wirkola and written by Pat Casey and Josh Miller, Violent Night 2 continues Santa’s unconventional adventure.
This time, Santa finds himself on the Naughty List after losing sight of the true spirit of Christmas. Stripped of his magical powers, he must battle a ruthless mobster threatening a shopping mall while finding his way back to the Nice List—with a little help from Mrs. Claus.
The sequel is scheduled to hit theaters on December 4.
